This was an interesting read and I didn't know what to expect based on the title so it was a nice surprise once I read it.

Terri is a woman who is sick and tired of being sick and tired. Like most women, after the birth of a child and the weight gain, she feels unattractive. Her husband, Marcus does nothing to make her feel differently. He barely has sex with her. Since Marcus quits his job to manage a boy band, he travels a lot or so Terri thinks. Hmmm, imagine her surprise when she finds out Marcus has been creeping with a pretty young thing.

Feelings are hurt. Words are said. Revenge is sweet. What Terri does next will surprise everyone as the good girl turns bad and comes out on top or will she? Will Terri forgive Marcus? Will Marcus cut off his side chick to stay true to his vows?

I enjoyed this read but rated it 3 stars due to the numerous grammatical and spelling errors. If those are resolved, this will definitely be a 4 star read. This story has a great plot and character development. The author did a great job displaying the emotions of a woman scorned.

Review: Right Before My Eyes II

Right Before My Eyes II by Michelle Robinson

Jordyn, Journee, Kalena, Najah and Chelsea are back and the drama has been turned up about ten notches.

Kalena comes home from her honeymoon heartbroken due to her husband, Todd committing suicide while they were away. There are so many unanswered questions surrounding the suicide and Kalena has no idea where to turn to. Her friends are there for her but little does she know, one of the Bell sisters have a secret and it is going to cause an uproar. Friendships are tested and love is doubted.

This sequel has a great storyline and it pulls you into a web of friendships and deception. It shows you how far one would go to cover up their wrongdoings. As you read this story, you will be able to relate to the situations as it could happen to any one of us. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Review: Untamed Desire

Untamed Desire by LaRedeaux

Once again, LaRedeaux takes us on an erotic journey. The mixture of short stories and poems is a nice touch and allows the reader to fully grasp the words, the emotions and their sexual feelings. Do not read this book if you are not sexually open minded.

This is the perfect e-short to read to your partner. It might even give you some ideas (hint hint). So one click tonight and take the "untamed" roller coaster ride.

Review: Freakizm

Freakizm by Forever Redd

This is my first read by Forever Redd. Freakizm is a short erotic read about Rico, a young man who was releasing his sexual desires in a reckless way... through online hookups. He finally decides to meet one of his online trysts, Brioshe. Rico is definitely not ready for the adventure that Brioshe takes him on and she is not ready for her heart to be broken as she wants more than a sex buddy. Will Rico commit to a relationship with Brioshe? Will Brioshe be okay with just being sex buddies?

Besides a few grammatical errors and the author's use of slang such as "nekkid" instead of "naked", this was an okay read for me. I felt the story starting building a plot without coming to a climax. I understand the story is written by a woman from a man's point of view but it doesn't really tap into his emotions. Although it was a short story, there was no real character development.

I have the author's debut book and I look forward to reading it to see if that is just Forever Redd's writing style.

Excerpt

Outside, nearly all the Nephilim were gathered on the front porch. They stepped aside for Michaela as she made her way down the steps. It was easy to see what they were looking at.

The sky was growing dark, nearly black along the horizon of the farthest fields. But Michaela’s attention was on something else. She recognized them immediately.

The Archangels landed lightly on the gravel and walked toward the house. Their wings were white and brutally bright in the snapping air. Ophaniel’s beautiful platinum hair twisted in the wind. Michaela recognized Simiel’s easy smile. Raphael looked even more serious than usual, his bulk taking up twice the room as the others. Uriel stalked slightly behind the others, her hand wound tight around Zarachiel’s, who walked slowly with his head down.

It didn’t take them long to reach the group. The Nephilim watched the Archangels carefully, their weariness ingrained from centuries of being hunted. Their anxiety was only kept at bay by Iris, who stood among them, smiling and beckoning the angels closer. Raphael found Michaela in the crowd.

“You better get the livestock in the barn,” he said, the warning clear in his voice.

“Why?”

The Nephilim parted around her, outlining a clear path between her and the Archangels, who didn’t come any closer. They regarded her with empty faces. Even Simiel averted his eyes. Michaela had only been able to guess up until this point, but now it was clear even her Archangels blamed her for releasing the hybrids and the chaos it had caused. If they knew about Gabriel signing over his soul, they likely hated her for causing that too. There was a divide between them as wide as a river. No one crossed. Their hollow presence sapped any relief at their return. She squared her shoulders.

“Why?” she asked again.

Raphael glanced over his shoulder at the approaching wall of darkness. “Locusts.”

“The Flight”

“You will never see me again!” I screamed. I knew I was running out of time as we approached the airport. “I’ll die there! I’m never coming home.”

“Abby, stop. You are getting yourself all worked up and we have to go inside now.” My father parked the car in the dismal parking garage. Ignoring my residual choking on tears, he got out of the car and began to extract the suitcases, careful not to get any dirt on his jeans.

Daddy always looked sharp, one more thing I hated about myself. In the last several years I had become more of a skeleton freak show than an attractive daughter he could be proud of. My face was gaunt and haggard and wore the look of an aging smoker. My breasts were flat and my waist curve-less, like a prepubescent boy. I wore sea-foam green sweat pants with the word “SPIRIT” in block letters down my right leg. The sweats hung around my thighs like a tent missing poles, but I liked them because I felt small inside them. A sloppy white t-shirt blaring “SPIRIT” as well, topped the ensemble.

“Abby, get out of the car.”

I debated for a moment, but knew that I’d never win. The wildest of my tantrums were no match for Dad’s strength, but until now, at least in the battle of wills, I had triumphed. Two days prior my parents played their trump card.

“We’ve tried everything.” My parents had me cornered in their bedroom. Mom spoke because I listened more calmly to her. “We’ve been patient while you’ve promised over and over to try. We are really, really worried about you.”

Mom’s voice broke there. Dad turned and glared at my little sisters eavesdropping from the bedroom doorway. Two sets of chocolate brown eyes and one blue pair ducked back into the hallway. Then he shut the door and stepped forward.

“You promised to gain ten pounds in two months.” Dad’s voice was taut. The six-foot-four man that I once thought invincible slouched beneath a heavy burden. “Over a month ago, you agreed to the ultimatum that you would gain eight pounds. You’re nowhere near that. You need help and this is not a discussion. Remuda Ranch agreed to admit you, and we need to be there the day after tomorrow.” Daddy turned and left the room.

I slumped to my knees on the floor. “Please, please, please, Mom! Don’t send me away. I can’t be gone for two months. You might as well disown me. I’ll die there!”

It was the best kiss I’d ever received, but also the worst. It sparked lust and need in every inch of me. My lips wanted more, my tongue wanted savagery. My skin wanted to bruise because he needed to touch me so badly.

All my thoughts disappeared as I nipped at his bottom lip. He flinched, but a second later he copied, his sharp canines piercing my oversensitive flesh.

“Top rule. Unbreakable rule. Don’t. Ever. Touch. Me.” Fox kneeled on one knee beside my head, breathing hard. His hand noosed my throat, pressing my spine into the carpet. His eyes were cold and lifeless, looking like a hunter intent on blood.

Pepper Winters wears many roles. Some of them include writer, reader, sometimes wife. She loves dark, taboo stories that twist with your head. The more tortured the hero, the better, and she constantly thinks up ways to break and fix her characters. Oh, and sex… her books have sex.

1. What is your inspiration as a writer?

My faith is my inspiration for pretty much everything that I do, so that would include writing. I've always had a desire to write since I can remember being a little girl. I'm thankful that I didn't give up on my dream, it's so awesome to be releasing my debut novel-one of many.



2. How hard is to gain a following when you are a Urban Christian Writer?

I'm still in the process of doing this since this is my first novel. However I've been opening up myself and sharing bits of who I am on social media along with writing my blog post which has been helpful so far in gaining followers. I've realized that people like to know the person behind  the products more than the product itself.



3. What motivates you to write?

Live motivates me. I like to write about real life situations, fictional of course, but real enough for readers to connect with some of the characters.



4. What do you want reader's to take away from Not My Will?

Not My Will is fictional, however it is inspired by a similar situation I faced like the main character Virtue. Virtue struggles in her  faith by wanting to abstain from sex with her boyfriend, however there are many other struggles that we all face in our lives. Virtue clearly is not perfect in this novel, like we all are imperfect, but she is looking to God to help her overcome that particular struggle. Like Virtue we are all faced with struggles, tragedies, fears, death whatever it may and the only place we can get help is from God. Everyday is a day to surrender our will and allow God's will to be done.





5. What can the reader's expect from you in the near future?

I'm already working on my second novel which I am very excited about. The main character gets some life changing news from her dying mother. I think there are many people that unfortunately are faced with family secrets that can either destroy them or make them stronger-depending on which way they allow the news to carry them.






 

Khara Campbell holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree in Creative Writing from Midland Lutheran University. She is an online contributor for The Praying Woman which many of her post have went viral on social media; also Black Literature Magazine and The Literary Network. She was born and raised in Nassau, The Bahamas. She resides in the Washington, DC metro area with her husband and their three young children. Not My Will is her debut novel.
