Chatting it up with Dyphia Blount aka Gemini Phoenix

We would like to thank Dyphia Blount aka Gemini Phoenix for stopping by for her 10/10 Interview. Don't forget to download her new book and leave a review.

1. Can you please tell us who is Gemini Phoenix?
Gemini Phoenix is a wife, mother, friend, child of God, and entrepreneur!  I chose Gemini Phoenix as a pen name because my zodiac sign is Gemini; which I'm true to, and I feel like the day I started writing (5 years ago), I rose from ashes like a phoenix!

2. What was your inspiration behind "Let's Wait Awhile?"
My inspiration behind Let's Wait Awhile was the fact that I have a teenage daughter who I want to wait to have sex and felt that all teenage girls her age need some type of inspiration to do so.

3. Most of your readers are used to you being an erotica author, why the sudden switch in genre?  How has it been received?
The sudden switch came about from God. He told me that I needed to share what's really going on in the world and help these young girls understand that it's ok not to follow the crowd. It was received well I guess.  My true fans loved it and I've also gained a few fans that has never read any of my erotica books.

4. How much did your own sexuality or life come into play while writing this book?
A great deal of my own sexuality came into play when I wrote this story because I was molested, saw friends go through date rape, suicide, and abusive household environments.

5. Do you have a philosophy by which you live?
The philosophy that I live by is to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I think it's pretty self explanatory. lol

6. What type of legacy would you like to leave for your readers... young and old?
The legacy I would like to leave is that I put my personal experiences into my books so they will know it's real and feel the emotions.

7. How important was a "platform" in selling your young adult books?
A platform is really important when selling or writing any type of book.  I wish I'd done more to get this book out there, but I'm still working in the shadows.

8. Do you have book signings coming up where teen readers can meet you?
am currently working on an event for May 13th in Newport News as well as securing a spot at Barnes & Nobles for the summer.

9. Can you tell us about your upcoming project(s)?
I have several upcoming projects, but I'm currently working on Let's Wait Awhile 2 and a spin off from my best selling series, Suck Me Dry called That's My Bestfriend!

10. What advice do you have to an aspiring author?
The advice I would give any new author or writer is to pull your stories from within, don't trust everyone who says they want to help, and stay true to God first and He will be true to you always!

I believe God has a plan for all of us and we need to have Faith and believe that everything happens for a reason. I left my job of seven years to write and publish my first book Dicmatized: The Doctor Is In in 2012. It even made #5 top rated, best erotica and held the spot for over 2 months! I am also an advocate and founder of Breaking the Silence of Abuse (www.breakingthesilenceofabuse.com) spreading the word, “I am not a victim, I am a survivor!” I'm a wife, mother, and friend.  I am so proud and overjoyed that you all took the time to read one or all of my books and I want you to know...without you, there is no me! My tagline is ~ Why try to fit in, when you're meant to stand out?

Review: Naughty Girl

Naughty Girl Naughty Girl by Deep
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Naughty Girl, as the name implies ,is full of sensual and very descriptive sex scenes. Kya is a young lady who knows what she wants and goes after it no matter the age or sex. Some of the scenes are so steamy they ooze with passion and heat right off of the pages, You may find yourself either fanning to cool down or looking for your partner to make the scenes come to life in your own bedroom. Great job to the author on her debut erotic read. I look forward to reading more from this up and coming erotica author. Keep bringing the heat and I will keep supporting.

About The Book

Never say what love can't—or won't—do.
Balloon Artist Gadiya Lassiter never imagined waking up without the love of her life, small-town fire chief Nico Dupree. Then one day, it becomes her tortured reality. Fast-forward two years…he's back and making his intentions to rekindle their flame known. But she vows to never love him again. As determined as she is to keep her heart out of his hands, love seems to have its own agenda.
For Nico, returning home to Mount Pleasance, North Carolina is not without its benefits. The most valuable, Gadiya. He’s determined to reclaim her heart—despite her obvious goal to hate him. But he’s not giving up on her; not again. He’ll just have to convince her the disdain she harbors for him is far less potent than the love he knows she still has for him. And he'll do it one scorching kiss at a time.
As their attraction grows hotter and hotter, will Gadiya be able to escape the flames, or will Nico's fire consume her?

Since she was a young girl growing up in Garner, Joy knew she wanted to write. Real good love is what you’ll find in a Joy Avery romance.
Joy is married with one child. When not writing, she enjoys reading, cake decorating, pretending to expertly play the piano, driving her husband insane, and playing with her two dogs.Joy is a member of Romance Writers of America and Heart of Carolina Romance Writers.

ExcerptNico allowed Gadiya to escape his hold. He may not have broken her shell, but he’d surely cracked it. As she made her way across the floor, he said, “I’ll tell you what’s a waste of time. Your fighting this. You have a right to be pissed at me, Gadiya, but you can’t deny you still feel something for me.”

This stopped her in her tracks. Whipping around, she charged him like a raging bull. “Anything I may have felt for you in the past is long gone. I feel nothing for you now, Nico Dupree. Nothing. And I never will.”

“Is that why you’re still single?” He regretted the words the moment they escaped. There could have been a myriad of reasons why she wasn’t in a relationship, none of them having anything to do with him.

Gadiya slowly shook her head, something in her expression turning sad. “The reason I’m still single has nothing to do with you. But if you must know, I decided to never give my heart to another man, because the one man I trusted with it, shattered it into tiny pieces. I loved that jerk, that coward, far more than he deserved. I loved him far more than breathing, which was okay, because, with him, I never feared suffocating. He gave me life. Then he took it away.”

Nico hadn’t expected her powerful summation. He couldn’t speak, couldn’t move toward her, could hardly breathe. All he could do was dumbly stare into her glistening eyes, then at her back as she turned to leave.

Gadiya stopped at the door. Over her shoulder, she said, “On second thought, I guess my being single has everything to do with you. I never want to see you again, Nico. You are dead to me. Just like the idea of me ever loving you again.”

With that, she was gone.

Review: Copycat

Copycat Copycat by Kimberla Lawson Roby
My rating: 0 of 5 stars

They say imitation is the best form of flattery but what happens when it becomes too much or even dangerous.

In Copycat, you will meet Simone Phillips and Traci Calloway Cole. The two women quickly become friends. Traci thinks it is a coincidence when Simone seems to have common interests with her including wanting to be an author. You know, we all have that friend who wants to dress like us or wear the same hairstyles. You may think it is cute until you meet a woman like Simone Phillips.

Imitation reveals Simone's crazy tangled past and Traci is caught in the web. Will Traci found out the truth before things turn dangerous? Get your copy of Copycat to find out how things turn out for both of them.

The author does an exceptional job of making sure each character has its own personality . It pushes the limits of friendship and betrayal. The plot will have you on edge although at times predictable.

Excerpt

“Nma, so where’s this husband you keep saying you have?” Abayomi heard the man say as he approached.
Olanma giggled and then abruptly stopped. Abayomi knew that in that moment she sensed his presence. She turned sideways, but the man she was with was so busy checking her out that he didn’t see Abayomi walk up.

“If he’s not taking care of…”

“I hear you’re looking for me and I take care of my wife just fine.” Abayomi came to a halt between Olanma and the man.
The look of shock on both their faces was satisfying. Nma? He couldn’t believe she allowed another man to call her that. Not even her father called her “beauty.” Only two people had that privilege – he and her grandmother. Or so he thought.

Abayomi snaked his arm around his wife’s waist and kissed her hair. He then stretched out his other hand to the man. “Abayomi Rice, said husband.”
The expression on the man’s face switched from shock to embarrassment. At least he had some shame.
After a few moments, he heard his wife say, “Yomi, this is Emeka Maduka, an old friend.”
Old friend? That’s what she thought. The man wanted her. Abayomi wasn’t fooled. He wrote the book on old friends. It was time to cut this little reunion short. “It was nice meeting you. I’ll take my wife now.”

Abayomi didn’t wait for a response before he ushered Olanma out of the ballroom. He found a secluded area where they could talk. He stared at her and began to pace. He had never been good at hiding his possessive nature.
“Yomi, that was rude and what are you doing here?” Olanma asked in a hushed whisper.
“Apparently, reminding you that you’re still my wife.”
She stared at him in disbelief. “No, I’m not doing this with you.”
“Really? Nma,” Abayomi said, his tone laced with irritation and sarcasm.

“You’ve got some nerve. You pop into Lagos two days ago, and then you don’t come home…” Her voice was shaky with rage. “I’m not doing this with you. Not here.” She began to walk away.
Abayomi exhaled. He was messing this up. “Olanma, wait.”
She stopped, but didn’t turn around.
“I’m sorry. I saw him touch you and then you laughed with him. I haven’t heard that sound in ages and I saw red.”

He hadn’t meant to reveal all that, but masked feelings were what had brought them to this point. If there was going to be a chance for them, they would have to lay down the masks. And since he was the one that was served with divorce papers, he had to take the first step. His prayer was that his vulnerability would lead them back to the intimacy they once shared. Where their souls were tied as one and hopefully rebuild their trust. He hoped she would see that.

Olanma walked back to him and stared at him intently. “It’s been a year. What did you expect? That I’d curl up and die?” She turned and walked away.

Her heated eyes showed him her soul. She was hurt, but so was he. This wasn’t what he imagined for them. Past the pain and anger he saw in her eyes, he also saw longing and love. It was clearer to him that restoring his marriage would be an uphill battle. Losing, however, wasn’t an option.

BOOK 1: A DARKER SHADE OF MIDNIGHT

LaShaun went to her. She kissed the hand that had guided her through childhood. Now the knuckles were knotted, the tapered fingers weakened by arthritis. Yet, the skin appeared strangely smooth.

“Bon soir, Monmon. You should be in bed.” LaShaun kissed her forehead. She breathed in the familiar scent of Cashmere Bouquet. The fragrance of lavender and chamomile came from another era.

“So, you finally come home. To watch me die, eh?” Monmon Odette patted LaShaun’s cheek.

“To celebrate your life, sweet mother,” LaShaun whispered. A tear slipped down her face. No need to make pointless protestations otherwise. They both knew Monmon Odette’s time on earth was growing shorter.

Monmon Odette shushed away her sadness with a soft hiss. She produced a scented lace handkerchief from the pocket of her robe and dabbed away the tear. LaShaun sat on the floor and rested her head in Monmon Odette’s lap.

“Don’t grieve just yet, Cher . The blood is still runnin’ warm in these old veins. I’ve got just enough time left I think.”

“Time for what?” LaShaun toyed with the hem of her grandmother’s cotton gingham robe.

“You’ll know soon enough. But tonight you need rest after a long journey. You’ve come back home through time and space I think,” Monmon Odette murmured.

LaShaun looked up at her. “Has anything changed here?”

Monmon Odette patted her shoulder as a signal she wanted to stand. With a short grunt from the effort, and a hand from LaShaun, she rose from the chair. Monmon Odette held LaShaun’s arm as they walked down the hallway to her bedroom.

“Some things are eternal. The movement of the wind, the heat on the bayou when summer comes. All that is the same.”

“The land stays the same if people don’t ruin it. Like they ruin a lot of things,” LaShaun said softly.

“Human nature doesn’t change either, Cher .” Monmon stopped and gave LaShaun a sideways glance. “The same deadly sins rule a man’s nature.”

“And women,” LaShaun added raising an eyebrow back at her.

Monmon Odette laughed and started walking again. “True. But age does make a difference. When you get to be old you look at things differently.”

They arrived at the door to her grandmother’s bedroom. As they entered, LaShaun let her go in first. Then she fluffed the down pillows as her grandmother sank onto the bed. LaShaun helped her remove the robe and ease back onto the pillows. Once she’d tucked the vintage quilt around Monmon Odette’s chest her grandmother sighed.

“Thank you, sweet girl. Now sit with me awhile.”

LaShaun sank onto the cushioned seat of a large oak rocking chair next to the bed. A Bible was on the nightstand. “Of course. Shall I read to you?”

“Non.”

Monmon Odette closed her eyes after a few moments. LaShaun watched the slight rise and fall of her grandmother’s chest. After a while, she gazed around. Monmon Odette had redecorated. Her grandmother had a fondness for antiques, history and tradition. Yet, Monmon Odette was no old lady clinging to the past. LaShaun smiled when she saw the combination radio and compact disc player on the other wide nightstand. The high tech device didn’t clash with the country style décor. Curtains with a lovely old rose pattern on a cream background matched the quilt, the rug and pillow shams. An overhead cane ceiling fan looked old enough to have come from one of the plantation homes along Vermilion River. Then LaShaun saw the family photos on a round table. She left the rocker and went to it. Several pictures were sepia toned, taken before the turn of the last century. “Celie LeGrange, 1866-1932” was written at the bottom of one. Monmon Odette’s mother. Jules Paul LeGrange, husband to Celie and Monmon Odette’s father, stared stone-faced from another photo. An even older picture of a lovely woman dressed in a long dress and button top shoes sat next to it. LaShaun did not have to read the faint letters to know her. Acelie LeGrange stared at her descendant across time, two hundred years to be exact. LaShaun’s mother stared from a photo taken in 1982. She looked beautiful in a flowered sundress. Francine stood next to a five year old LaShaun. Both wore forced smiles trying hard to look happy for the camera. LaShaun didn’t remember that particular day, but she remembered her mother’s overwrought disposition. Still in love with Antoine St. Julien even five years after he married another, Francine never found happiness.

“I’m glad you’re home, Cher . Have you forgiven me?”

LaShaun looked up to find her grandmother’s dark gaze fixed on her. “I didn’t blame you for anything that happened to me, Monmon.”

“Maybe you should have, and for your maman, too. So many mistakes and no time to fix them. But I may still have time to do some good for you.” Monmon Odette inhaled deeply causing a rattling sound deep in her chest. She breathed out slowly then closed her eyes.

“I made my own choices, and my own mistakes.” LaShaun blinked away tears.

Monmon Odette nodded without opening her eyes. “Maybe Le Bon Dieu will have mercy on this old woman.”
