Review: After Wednesday: A Short Story

After Wednesday: A Short Story
After Wednesday: A Short Story by Nakia R. Laushaul

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

After Wednesday was an okay short story to me. Although the characters were defined, too much going on in the short span of the book. Characters and scenarios were introduced near the end and left me wondering…who and where did that come from? To make the story flow, I think the author could have made this book a novella or full length novel.

Review: A Husband for Christmas: A Holiday Novella

A Husband for Christmas: A Holiday Novella
A Husband for Christmas: A Holiday Novella by Nakia R. Laushaul

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Husband for Christmas was my first read by the author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a mix of love, humor and sensuality rolled into one. I was rooting for Pretty Brown Eyes and her online interest. When you let down your guard and allow love in, you just may find it.

I need a full length novel on this story. Great job and I look forward to reading more of your titles.

Review: Vengeance Will be Mine

Vengeance Will be Mine
Vengeance Will be Mine by Chyta Curry

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Revenge is sweet even when it is unexpected.

Vengeance Will Be Mine is a great story of a woman, Rhonda who survived the lowest points in her life and came out swinging to gain the win in the end. There has been many times when we as women take more than we deserve in the name of love from our husband (or significant other but when is enough, just that…enough. One click this story to be taken on an emotional ride. Sometimes you would want to slap Rhonda, other times you want to hug her as we all know someone like her.

Although there were a few grammatically errors, it did not take away from the story which flowed effortlessly. Each character was well developed and had its own identity. I applaud the author on penning this story of love and what it truly does not mean.

Review: My Husband and My Soulmate

My Husband and My Soulmate
My Husband and My Soulmate by Michelle Johnson

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

My Husband and My Soulmate was a whirlwind, unrealistic novel of a couple who wanted the best of both worlds. The story did not flow well as while Danielle is pregnant with her husband, Percival’s child, she does some unthinkable things with a stranger, Daniel, with whom she had just met. Although her husband was a jerk, it would have been nice to see the story flowed and developed with Daniel.

As in most cases of infidelity, this story makes you think and brings the issue of the “down low” brother to the forefront. Too many men are living double lives and putting everyone at risk rather than being up front with their partner. Also, “all that glitters is not gold” so be careful.

Although the flow was off, I would still like to read part 2 to see how it all ends and give the author a second chance.

Review: Love & Happiness

Love & Happiness
Love & Happiness by Michelle Cuttino

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In this novel, we meet many characters but each one was clearly defined and developed to the point you knew them. The main character, Roxanne Linden was a confused woman who hid so much of her past inside that when confronted by the demons, it overtook her existence and made it hard to cope with everyday living.

Ms. Cuttino brought to light many realistic issues from being a plus sized woman to being uncertain of one’s sexuality. When those issues clashed, it caused an explosion of truths along with the need to be accepted. But in the end, was Roxanne being truthful with herself? Did she find love and happiness?

This was my first read by the author but will not be my last. Very few authors are able to intertwine so many characters in one book without confusing the reader but Ms. Cuttino mastered it by giving a background on each one of them while you are reading the story. The story had a great flow plus the added bonus of the main character being a plus sized lesbian.

One click this book today to be tangled in the web of love, lust and betrayal amongst family and friends.
