In life and business, Trey Miller has always been the good guy. Nothing wrong with that, since it’s gotten him everywhere he has needed to be. His startup company is a success and growing so much that he is gaining the attention of larger corporations.

By all accounts, Trey has it all, but the one place he fails is love.

He thought he might have had something with Emogen Kane, but she was taken before he even had a chance. Now, he hides behind work, unwilling to take any risks in the love department.

When Trey finds himself vying for a huge account against Faith Young, he knows he’s going to have to play it tough to win. Faith is smart, attractive and rumor has it, she lands every account she goes after.

When Faith is thrown into his path at every turn, Trey starts to feel that it is more than a coincidence. Knowing that Faith has a boyfriend douses the flame that he was starting to feel, until he realizes that the guy might not at all be what he seems.

Trey let go once, but he’s determined to win it all this time. Does he have it in him to roll up his sleeves and get dirty? And if he does, will he finally end up with the girl?

We make visual contact with each other and neither of us says a word.

I’ve never played paintball before, but these few short minutes are the most fun I’ve had in a while. I watch Faith as she, with pinpoint precision, peeks from behind the tree and hits a target that is running past. Poor bastard never saw her. I give her a thumbs up and peek out from behind my spot and shoot two rounds, hitting a guy who was about to shoot one of my teammates.

I nod to Faith and mouth, “How many?”

She shrugs and lifts her head up, I assume she’s doing a mental tally and when she shows me a count of eight, I smile. Sixteen of us came in, and we’ve shot two of our opponents. She starts laughing and points, waving me over. I peek around the wall and when I see the coast is clear, I sling my gun over my shoulder and make run for it. She shoots three times, and I hear another guy groan somewhere behind me, but I don’t bother to check where the noise came from.

I dive at the last moment and trip over a branch that sticks out of the ground and tumble toward Faith. Before I land, possibly hurting her, I try to push away throwing myself onto my back to avoid a collision. Somehow she ends up on top of me and covers my mouth with her hand. She raises a finger up to silence me and points somewhere past me.

I’m not sure what her plan is, but I’ll let her stay where she is for as long as she wants. Faith turns to check both sides and whispers, “Make that five more left.”

“What now?” I ask before she drops her face to my neck.

She muffles a whisper, “Someone’s behind us. Be. Still.”

She takes a sip of her drink and smiles. “Does she love you or hate you?”

“I think it probably depends on the day.”

Mine to Lose (Mine to Love #1) – Released Jan 2014

What happens when the fairy tale ends before it even begins?

Three years, two graduations, an engagement and a move to another, Emogen and Ryan are more in love than ever. He’s the one man she never expected to have and the only man she’s determined to keep. He’s her forever, and there’s nothing she wouldn’t do for him.

Almost, that is

.

Ryan announces that he’s accepted a job offer that requires yet another move. Angry he didn’t discuss his decision with her first, Emogen refuses to pack up and follow. She has a career, too, and she’s not ready to give it up.

Although determined to make the long distance thing work, their lives and careers begin to take a toll on the relationship, leaving them to wonder if they’re doing the right thing.

Sometimes love isn’t enough.

When you lose the one thing you are certain of, will you fight to get it back? Or will you let it go?

Being There – Released July 2013

When Cass Howard was young, she never dreamed she would have the perfect job, living in New York, with an amazing man by her side.

That’s a good thing…because none of that ever happened.

Drew Alexander was the one person who knew Cass better than almost anyone, and the friendship that developed in high school carried them to college. Despite the distance, their bond grew stronger, revealing to each of them what they meant to each other. A series of fleeting moments and a string of failed relationships helped them realize that what they really wanted, what they needed, was each other.

But that was five years ago, and sometimes things just don’t work out.

Now twenty-five, Cass finds herself living in Houston, working at a small publishing house as an editor. By most accounts, she appears happy, however she has managed to avoid a true relationship, opting to channel all of her energy on work, despite protests from her best friend.

The only thing that can drag her away is the annual girls’ weekend, which comes at the best possible time, because Cass has just learned life-altering news. With the most recent blow to her life looming overhead, will the getaway with her closest friends change her outlook on life? Or will her inability to put the past behind her stifle any chance she has of moving on? Will she ever be able to open up and let those who love her be there for her?

What inspired you to begin writing? Have you always wanted to be a writer?

I was a reader as a kid, but by the time I got to high school, I hated it - because I had to do it all the time. I started reading again a few years ago and fell in love with Slammed by Colleen Hoover. Something about that story just got me. So that's what got me inspired.

I was always journaling and my mind was always working. Funny you ask this, because I was just telling my mom that I remember daydreaming fantastical romances, how they played out, the makeup and breakup of it all. I never wrote them down. It wasn't until about 9 years ago, I started writing short stories and poems, but nothing came of them. In fact, I still have the file, but since it was password protected, I can't access them. LOL! I guess that's a sign they were no good. :-p

_______

Who is your favorite character you’ve ever written, and why?

OH DAMN!! Okay, let me think!

The obvious answer for me is Cass, because she is my first. So much of her personality and inner struggles with who she is, I've been there.

Then there's Jett - okay, clearly I'm not a dude, but I can be obnoxious and annoying like that. When I was growing up, I loved to make others uncomfortable by talking about sex and saying inappropriate things. I LOVE writing Jett, because he's fun! People want Jett's story, and I want to write it. I KNOW it. But I'm so worried about not doing him justice.

_______

If you HAD to choose between your male characters, which would you choose?

I love all of them! (Except Brad!) But if I HAD to pick, I'm going to say Drew. He's strong, says what he wants and wears his heart on his sleeve. There was something about him that was imperfectly perfect. He just makes me smile.

_______

What’s on the horizon for T.K. Rapp?

LOTS!! LoL! I have 4 other stories in my head, but I can't walk and chew gum at the same time. So for now, I'm working on an untitled YA story inspired by my girls. They want so badly to read my books, so this one is for the older - high school - versions of them. I'm really excited about this one! I also have 3 signings coming up this year, so maybe I'll get to meet some people!

_______

Rapid questions –

Favorite musician?
The Avett Brothers or Mumford & Sons.

Favorite movie? SHIT! Um! Off the top of my head "Dazed & Confused."

Favorite book? Toss up! "Slammed" or "In the Band"

Favorite quote? "Laugh at what you did today, it's all been done before." Tripping Daisy! (I love them!!)

Favorite color? Teal

T.K. Rapp is a Texas girl born and raised. She earned a B.A. in Journalism from Texas A&M and it was there that she met the love of her life. He had a contract with the U.S. Navy that would take them across both coasts, and ultimately land them back home in Texas.

Upon finally settling in Texas, T.K. worked as a graphic designer and photographer for the family business that her mom started years earlier. She was able to infuse her creativity and passion, into something she enjoyed, but something was still missing. There was a voice in the back of her head that told her to write, so write, she did. And, somewhere on an external hard drive, are several stories she started and never finished.

Now at home, raising her two daughters, T.K. has more time to do the things she loves, which includes photography and writing. When she’s not doing one of those, she can be found with her family, which keeps her busy. She enjoys watching her kids in their various sporting activities (i.e. doing the soccer mom thing), having Sunday breakfast at her parent’s house, singing out loud and out of key or dancing like a fool. She loves raunchy humor, gossip blogs and a good book.

Review: Forgive Us This Day

Forgive Us This Day
Forgive Us This Day by Barbara Joe Williams

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Forgive Us This Day is a gripping tale of a happily married couple, Alese and Michael Wayne who are crippled by one partner’s bad judgment. It seems as if the more they try to work on their marriage, the more it crumbled but as we all know, God doesn’t give us any more than we can bear. Day after day, the couple are faced with challenges especially with the impending adoption of their beautiful daughter Bianca and Alese’s sickly mother.

This story shows us that when a couple has a strong faith- based marriage, the power of prayer, forgiveness, hope and persistence can make a difference between moving on or ending up in divorce court. I applaud the author for showing Michael as an African American man who refuses to give up on his family through the trials and tribulations they face every day.

I looking forward to reading more from this author.

Blog Tour: Somewhere With You by Britney King

Title: Somewhere With You

Author: Britney King

Release Date: April 10, 2014

Find on
Goodreads

This is the tale of first and last loves. And those that come in between…

Jack Harrison is a relentless overachiever who leaves little in the way of compromise. A businessman to the core—he's hell-bent on being at the top of the food chain. After all, no one can trip you up if you’re on top, as he likes to say. The problem for Jack is there’s only one thing that continually trips him up—and that’s her.

Amelie Rose, with a name like poetry and a heart of gold, as her father always said, is a free-spirited photographer who has managed to land a job at one of the top travel magazines in the world. This is both a blessing and a curse since Amelie never stays in one place for long and has refused to commit to anything—ever.

It might seem to the casual observer that these two have almost nothing in common. But fate would disagree. The story chronicles Jack and Amelie’s lives from childhood into adulthood, beginning when they meet as then eight- and ten-year-olds at summer camp specifically designed for children who’ve lost too much.

As fate steps in, and that first summer seals the deal, they come to depend on each other in ways neither of them expected, with each summer bringing them closer than the last. As they come to terms with life and loss, with hanging on and letting go, they’ll teach each other that some bonds are meant to last. Together, they will travel the world, meeting in various places where they’ll come together, and fall apart, all the while struggling to discern if the other could possibly be the one.

This unlikely love story takes us on an adventure where two people come of age, fall in and out of love, and question the role timing plays in it all.

Their story is proof that neither time nor distance—perhaps not even death—can destroy what love creates.

So it seems the only question left to ask is whether love is enough?

*For mature audiences.

As soon as Amelie and Jack checked into the hotel, they promptly had sex. Which should have made Jack happy but it didn’t. She seemed different in that regard. More confident. And definitely, less innocent. After they finished, he watched Amelie as she stood at the counter and reapplied her makeup. “I thought you weren’t seeing anyone,” Jack hissed.

She stopped mid application and eyed him in the mirror. “I’m not.”

“So you’re not fucking anyone else either then?” he demanded.

Amelie did a double take. “I never said that.”

He threw his hands up. “So you are then. I knew it.”

She turned and faced him. “Did I miss something? Did we have an agreement about that?"

Jack felt his face redden. “I didn’t think we needed to.”

Amelie turned back to the mirror and spoke slowly, matter of factly. “So you haven’t slept with anyone, Jack? That’s what you want me to believe? Because I don’t. Not for a second...”

“This isn’t about me.”

She smiled wryly and met his gaze head on. “Isn’t it?”

For those of you who prefer it straight up, no chaser: Mama to five. Writer. Juggler Extraordinaire. That just about covers it…

The extended version and in third person no less ;): Britney is married to a man she adores (when he isn’t driving her crazy) and is the mother of FIVE pretty amazing kids, who (surprise!) also have a habit of driving her crazy. Her best guess is that it’s genetic. She is the author of three novels, Bedrock, Breaking Bedrock, and Somewhere With You, with plans to release fourth and fifth in 2014. In addition, she founded a local network for women in 2012, which has grown to nearly 1000 members. Currently, she occupies a job she enjoys–serving and running Austin Women’s Network. To further prove that she may in fact be certifiably insane, she decided to pursue her dreams and published her debut novel in May of 2013. Then and only then, could she consider her training to be an expert (life) juggler complete.

In her free time, you might find Britney running, reading, or spending time utilizing the wonderful venues that make her city great.

Review: Might as Well Be Single

Might as Well Be Single
Might as Well Be Single by Tina Martin

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Serena Alvares is like most married woman whose husband is committed to his job, fed up and tired! Tired of feeling like a single parent. Marco works long hours so he can provide for his family but at what costs. When his family’s unit is threatened to fall apart, Marco is forced to take a hard look at the situation. Will the Alvares be able to fix what is broken in their marriage? Is Marco willing to make the sacrifices in order to make his wife and daughter happy again?

This story is very real and relatable. At one point or another, we all feel like our spouses put their careers ahead of quality family time. Marco, as the head of the household, wants nothing but for his family to be financially comfortable. Money will take care of the bills but will not keep a family together.

Although, there are a few grammatically errors and the wife being called the wrong name, it doesn’t take away from the story or its flow. The characters were well developed as Serena and Marco are the average American couple.

Review: Zane's The Other Side of the Pillow: A Novel

Zane's The Other Side of the Pillow: A Novel
Zane's The Other Side of the Pillow: A Novel by Zane

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Jemistry Daniels is the poster child for an angry black woman. Although she is independent and highly successful, she is tired of being used and abused by men so she adapts the mentality: Friends with Benefits. If a man can do it, so can a woman…right??! Wrong, we as woman at some point have to break down those walls as it is not in our DNA to act like that without feeling some type of way.

Jemistry was doing well with that philosophy until she meets divorced Vascular Surgeon, Tevin Harris who is just the man to knock down those walls. Dr. Harris has had his own share of heartache in a different form. He knows how to fix his patients but can he fix Jemistry’s heart? Will she allow him in? Is there such a thing as being happy after being in a mentally and physically draining relationship many times before?

The author takes us on the journey of perseverance and love. The Other Side of the Pillow shows us with time and patience, anything is possible. Sometimes when we are at our most vulnerable stage in life, we find that is then, we have also reached our breaking point.

The story has a great flow and the characters are real and raw. At one time or another, we all have experienced what Jemistry and/or Tevin has gone through. I like how Zane has a quote at the beginning of each chapter. The quotes correspond with that chapter’s story. If you are a fan of Zane’s writings, you will not be disappointed as this is a five star read.

Review: Higher Than Me: The Story of Voices of Glory

Higher Than Me: The Story of Voices of Glory
Higher Than Me: The Story of Voices of Glory by Claudia Stewart Farrell

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Higher Than Me: The Story of Voices of Glory takes you on the journey of the Cole Family: Mike, Felicia and their three children: Mikey, Avery, and Nadia. The Coles have a strong faith based foundation as Mike and Felicia has grown up with many trials and tribulations. As you read through the pages of this emotional roller coaster, you can feel the love that the family has for one another. Little did they know, a trip that Felicia embarks on will change their lives forever and test their faith in a way no one should have to go through. It is amazing how faith and singing praises can change a person’s outlook in life which is exactly what the Cole children’s voices have done for their mom and others.

I applaud Mike for being the stuff a good man is made of. He went to bat for his family and refuse to falter even when no one was in his corner but him and God. The decisions he had to make as a husband and father tested his faith but through it all, he stay prayed up and knew God would see his family through its current hardship. This book was such an inspirational read of how the Voices of Glory singing group came into being. These children went from singing beside their mother’s bedside while she laid in a coma to national recognition on America’s Got Talent.

I experienced a range of emotions as I read this book from sadness to feelings of triumphant for the family. As a society, we always try to place timelines on things we have no control of. It is not man’s time but God’s time. He has the final decision on all matters. You do not have to be religious to become engulfed in this book. You will be captivated just reading the words of perseverance, faith, hope and love as told to the author.

About The Book
michellestimpson_noweaponformed_1400px

LaShondra and her Boaz, Stelson, are living the ideal American lifestyle, except for the subtle and not-so-subtle ways society keeps reminding them that they aren’t the norm. She’s African-American, he’s Caucasian, and their oldest child is already tackling the question of identity. It’s bad enough when outsiders show their ignorance or disdain. But when the issues come from family, LaShondra finds herself wondering if Stelson can truly comprehend the challenges looming on the horizon.
When a church picnic leads to a head-on clash between LaShondra’s fears and Stelson’s optimism, the truth prevails. But that’s just the beginning.

LaShondra learns that the drama during the family outing was only a set-up for an even more rigorous spiritual battle to save her family. After turning her back to the pressures at work and yielding to Stelson’s leadership, LaShondra finds herself interceding for a husband she hardly even recognizes anymore.
Is this the beginning of the end for the couple that truly endeavored to honor God’s ways, or will this season fortify their marriage for His glory?

Excerpt
Hwuuuuu. Sheeeee. Hwuuuuu. Sheeee.
“Stelson. Turn over on your stomach.” I shoved my husband’s shoulder, attempting to wake him.
No response.
Hwuuuuu. Sheeeee. Hwuuuuu. Sheeee.
“Stelson. Roll over.” A little louder, a little stronger push this time.
The television illuminated his glare at me, displaying the kind of anger that only a Church of God in Christ usher gives a member chewing gum in the sanctuary. “What?”
I demanded, “Roll over. You’re snoring.”
“No, I’m not.”
“Yes, you are.”
“I’m not even sleep,” he protested.
“You think I woke you up so I could lie to you?”He crumpled up his face, flipped onto his stomach with a grumble and turned his head away. I didn’t care about him getting upset. He wasn’t the one who had to rise at 5:00 a.m. so he could work out, get himself dressed, and then get a 6 month old and a 4 year old up, fed, dressed and at the daycare before 7:15 a.m.—all the while hoping to make it to work by 7:45 a.m. To be fair, Stelson would have helped with the kids if I’d asked him. But why should I have to ask? Shouldn’t it be instinctive to think, “Wow, my wife is really busting her behind with the kids. Since I have a morning off, I should use it to help her.”?
Apparently this is not common sense.
Within seconds, my husband was at it again. Only this time it wasn’t so much the sound as the annoying vibration of the rattle in his throat and nose. How have wives slept through snoring husbands for centuries?

She played the game by her own rules...until he changed them...

Payton wrote a self-published book regaling her encounters with men while visiting Las Vegas. To her horror, life changes in more ways than one when someone finds out her true identity.

Ryder, a successful publisher, is determined to find and sign Reece Edwards. Using what little information he can find on her, he sets out to find her, feeling it will definitely be worth the chase.

While on his search for Reece, Ryder meets Payton and the chemistry is explosive. Payton has done well with not allowing anyone to get close to her, but something is different with Ryder. Ryder can’t get Payton out of his head, but he is still on his mission to locate Reece.

With two tragic pasts, Payton and Ryder each have demons to overcome. Will they be able to put those demons to rest or will it be all for nothing?

I hadn’t felt so alone in a while. Vegas was usually the place where I felt at peace and didn’t have to deal with any of the bullshit that had occurred over past twenty-four hours. I took the hottest shower I could stand to wipe myself clean of the day, followed by a luxurious bubble bath while I drank the bottle of Moscato I had bought to be shared with someone other than myself. I submerged myself under the water, holding my breath for as long as I could while I floated back to the top. It felt liberating being able to only hear the roar of the water, without noises from the real world getting through. I must have repeated the process six or seven times until it lost its fun. I didn’t want to go home and I didn’t want to stay there. Both places reminded me of Ryder. I can’t believe he ruined Vegas for me. I had no idea where I would go the next day.

After the water started to turn lukewarm, I hopped out and air dried as I packed my bags. It felt nice to walk around my room, feeling the air against my cool skin. I was high enough that no one would see me when I walked close to the windows and the feeling of possibly being seen was highly erotic. I was packing my heels in my bag when there was a weak knock at the door. Turning suddenly, I had to wonder if it was meant for my door or maybe I was hearing someone knock next door.

I threw on a t-shirt and thong and stepped closer to the door. Just as I got on my tippy toes to see through the peep hole, I heard and felt another knock. Looking through the hole, I saw Tate walking away from my door. I opened the door without another thought and followed him, tapping on his shoulder.

Tate stopped, turned toward me, and then looked back at my door. “Were you planning on going back out like that?” He had a hint of amusement in his eyes.

“No, I heard you knock and threw the first thing I saw on to see who it was.”

“So you weren’t dressed?” His smile was full force.

“I was just packing to leave and hadn’t decided what to wear for the rest of the night. Why aren’t you with whore-face?” I didn’t need to tell him I wasn’t sure when I was leaving or where I was going. I hadn’t quite figured it out.

“Ahh, the more important question is how you’re going to get back in your room, doll. Seeing you strut downstairs to the front desk with your tight little ass peeking out from under your very thin t-shirt might gather even more looks than you and Tyler got on the casino floor earlier. You do know he’s getting married tomorrow, right?”

20. I have the best PA in the world ;)

Texas born and raised, I found my love for dirty books rather recently. I work in real estate for my normal job and I write contemporary romance. I love sweet tea (made right!), cookie cake, and anything with chocolate and peanut butter.

I have a few guys at my gym that are my TDF’s (tall, dark, and fuckable) but also have a HSB (Hot Sauna Boy), because let’s be honest, they’re my motivation while I’m there! I go to Las Vegas often but I swear I don’t have as much fun as Payton does. Although, if I found myself a Tate there, I might change my opinion!

Authors such as Katy Evans, SE Hall, Angela Graham, Jasinda Wilder, and Jillian Dodd have been a large influence on me and I’m forever grateful. I decided to write Sinfully on Black Friday in November 2013, on a whim. I thought I’d get bored after a few pages but was captivated by the characters and it developed into something I am truly proud of. Sinfully will be the first of three in its series, but they will be able to be read separately if desired.

When it comes to book boyfriends, I love those who are strong but with a little imperfection or tragedy in their past (Remy, Kellan, Q, Twitch are just a few of my favorites). I LOVE talking to my readers so feel free to message me on Facebook. ♥
